Some interesting facts about Tyliss Three:

The planet where the Tome of the Tamers Saga takes place. Tyliss Three is a tempurate world, approximately Earth sized. The planet was originally inhabited by 4 species of sentient dragons: The mighty, flightless tanks known as the Tunk'ta, the crafty, serpentine fire breathers called the Spindle, the super fliers named the Scouters, and the mightest of them all, the majestic War dragons. Once humans discovered and colonized the planet, the faternal twins, Sandra and Tolvar uld Morthar, used a powerful and ancient magic to bend the dragons to their will. Over centuries, this knowledge of dragon sentience was lost to the general populace. In just a few generations, most knowledge of what truly occurred in those early years was all but forgotten and overlooked, the people settling into a culture where dragon riding became a privilege.

Circling a G-type star similar to our own, just a few million kilometers closer, Tyliss Three is of course the third planet around the star Tyliss. There are 7 rocky planets and one gas giant in the Tyliss System. Tyliss Three has two moons. One is white and one is red. The red moon, Baine (named after a god worshipped by the ancient dragons of the planet) is closer and is one-third the size of the white moon (called Sol in memory of the human homeworld). Tyliss Three is the only planet in the system that can sustain life. The Tyliss System is only a few million years younger than the Sol System.

The Tyliss System is a border world, on the very edge of Alliance Territory. The Alliance, made up of approximately 150 species of which Terrans are included (the human race was introduced to the Alliance by the first species they ever encountered, the Kara-Karu), occassionally patrol the area, but due to the remoteness of the planet from any trading posts, they generally don't bother coming into visual range of the planet, only if they specifically hailed.

Due to its remoteness, the humans that first settled the planet wanted to live entirely without modern technologies of any kind. Over time, as a few alien races came and eventually settled, technology began to return in a limited way. However, in the recent years, aliens are becoming more and more common as refugees try to escape the march of a powerful, religiously fanatic force known as the Red Tide. Though the world is remote, it is considered only a matter of time before the Tide will reach their world.

The humans of Tyliss are generally nonreligious. Above all things, they believe in sustaning their world, and respecting the life of the planet, thus it could be said they are almost universally Pagan in some manner. While they have kept many of their old traditions, such as marriage, it no longer has any true meaning other than its symbolism. The culture as a whole is accepting of homosexuals, and those in multiple relationships are not seen in any negative light. Monogamy is a peronal choice and the population is raised to believe that.

Those who become dragon riders, because their souls are intertwined with those of their dragons', are in service to their governments for the entirity of their lives. However, after they reach an age that is no longer considered useful to be a soldier, they and their dragon are retired to gentlier jobs. They are sent to other cities were they are posted as security and police, and eventually allowed to live out the last of their days as they wish. By this time, their dragons usually can no longer fly and are simply too old to be considered a threat or have already passed away. The average life span of a human is anywhere from 250-275 years. The average life span of a dragon, any of them, is 200-230 years. The average height of male humans on this world is 6'3". The average height of females is 6'. Generally, they are stronger than Terrans, with slightly keener senses.
